Hi, I’m Heather Armijo
With over 20 years of experience in community-centered spaces, Heather is a Clinical Social Worker driven by curiosity and a deep commitment to connection — both in the therapy room and in the communities she serves. As a systems-based clinician, she brings trauma-informed and anti-oppressive practices to her work with individuals and communities.
Heather works in Greenwich Village with individuals across the lifespan who are navigating and healing from relational trauma, chronic stress and health conditions, grief, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. She is currently training at Somatic Experiencing International to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and has also trained at the William Alanson White Institute in the Eating Disorders, Addictions, and Compulsions Certificate Program.
Heather earned her Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies from Fordham University, concentrating on Latin American liberation movements and immigrant justice. She then worked as an immigration paralegal and Spanish-language interpreter — first at the Central American Resource Center in Los Angeles, CA, then at Staten Island Legal Services, where she assisted adult and child survivors of abuse in applying for immigration relief.
She completed her social work degree at Hunter's Silberman School of Social Work in Harlem. As a hospital social worker in East Harlem, she specialized in the intersection of psychosocial support, chronic conditions, oncology, and palliative care. Heather supported families whose loved ones were hospitalized in the ICU during the COVID-19 surge in 2020, providing emergency psychosocial care to staff and patients.
As a Spanish-speaking Mexican-American woman, these experiences ground her approach as a social worker. Heather is committed to integrating anti-racist tenets and a systems-based perspective into her work, examining how oppressive systems affect the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
In her free time, Heather enjoys dancing salsa, gardening, and participating in immigration advocacy and mutual aid.
